Emma has been with PDQ for over 3 years now, starting as the Receptionist, and progressing through a diverse range of positions in the Administration & Accounts departments. Most recently, Emma has decided to pursue a career in Construction Management & will study part time at CQU. To support Emma with her studies, PDQ has offered her the position of a building cadet. We would like to congratulate Emma on her achievement & wish her every success in her new & exciting career path.

“I started with Paynter Dixon Queensland (PDQ) in early 2013 as a receptionist, gaining a better understanding of how PDQ operated.” Emma mentions. “After being with the company for around 6 months, I was moved into the position of Administration Assistant to work in Pre-Construction. This was a great opportunity for me to see what really went into acquiring projects, pursuing clients and the role that the Design team has within the company. After a little over a year within this position, Brisbane was hit by an extremely intense hail storm and I was quickly whisked over to PDQ’s subsidiary Insurance company Rizon. It was here that I assisted the administration team with handling the inundation of claims and answering queries from stressed policy holders on the progress of their claims. This quickly went from being a two week stint to a 4 month learning curve on how to assist clients directly and organise trades to attend sites.” Emma said.

“Once the claims eased I was advised that when returning to PDQ I would move into an Accounts Assistant role to relieve some of the pressures of the Accounts team. Moving into this role, I had a very basic understanding of how Accounts operated but within a year I was taught everything I needed to know to confidently manage queries with minimal guidance. Working closely with our current Accounts Payable Manager, we made sure deadlines were met and all paperwork was processed.” Said Emma.

“It was in this position that I began to properly understand the diversity of the Construction industry and had made the decision of pursuing a career in the construction sector. After discussions with Management about studying and the possibility of moving into a Building Cadet role, I applied for a course in Construction Management where I secured a position. I’m grateful that I work for a Company that allows me to pursue my dreams, and upskill where possible. This is a fantastic opportunity and it’s nice to know that I have the support through my studies.” mentions Emma.
